Western Nebraska to host 10th Annual Cattlemen’s Ball

May 10, 2007 10:52 AM

Preparations for the 10th annual Cattlemen’s Ball fundraising event are underway in western Nebraska. The event will be June 2 at Sand Point Cattle Company, LLC, near Lodgepole, NE.

Hosted by the Ray and Mary Alger family and John and Laurie Widdowson, the ball is held to promote beef in a healthy diet and to showcase rural Nebraska. Most importantly, the event raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research and local health-care issues. All the money raised will stay in Nebraska with 90% of the proceeds going toward ground floor research projects at the University of Nebraska Medical Center Eppley Cancer Center. The remaining 10% will be directed to health care in western Nebraska.

“Power of the Point” is the theme for this anniversary celebration of the Cattlemen’s Ball, which is open to everyone. “Some people have the misconception that this is an agricultural event,” says Matt Monheiser, general co-chairman for this year’s event. “The Cattlemen’s Ball is an event that should appeal to everyone, with tons of activities going on throughout the day. From style shows to beef tasting to a casino, live and silent auctions, there is truly something for everyone.”

The highlight of the day will be a sit-down beef dinner, followed by a concert featuring Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum country music recording artist Jo Dee Messina. Following the concert, patrons will dance the night away to the music of the band High Horses.

Two ticket levels are available: Trail Boss ($300 each) and Top Hand ($65 each). Tickets for the event are on sale at the First National Bank in Chappell. To obtain tickets, call 800-303-5430. For more information visit http//:www.cattlemensball.com.
