Land O’Lakes Purina Feed Presents “Building Better Cattle”

Aug 20, 2007 10:49 AM

Good cattle health and potentially profitable gains are possible during the weaning and starting phase of beef production -- with the right nutrition and management. To learn more about "building better cattle" beef producers from around the country are invited to participate in RFD-TV's "Monday Night Live", at 8:00 p.m. EST. Sponsored by Land O'Lakes Purina Feed, LLC, the timely interactive program will focus on cattle-weaning strategies and post-weaning ration development.

From the comfort of their own living rooms, in prime-time hours, viewers can absorb the information presented by experts in livestock nutrition and ask their own questions of the panel that's been assembled for the show.

Through RFD-TV, viewers are given the chance to see and hear for themselves the latest science-based information about weaning practices that can best fit their operations, says Rod Nulik, St. Louis, Mo., Marketing Manager for Land O'Lakes Purina Feed, LLC. "We're excited to offer this interesting topic from experts in the cattle industry and plan to elicit insightful responses from national audience participants that can phone in and have their questions answered 'live' on the air."

Upcoming programs include:

Sept. 24, 2007 - Heifer Development/Breeding/Rebreeding -- Dr. Lee Dickerson, Dr. N.T. Cosby, Dr. Doug Hawkins.

Oct.15, 2007 - Brood Cow Productivity/Performance/Longevity -- Dr. Lee Dickerson, Dr. Chris Forcherio, Dr. Drew Shain.

Dec. 3, 2007 - Bull Conditioning/Development/Longevity -- Dr. Lee Dickerson, Dr. Steven Myers, Dr. NT. Cosby.

These TV shows are just part of a new educational "Better Animals" effort developed by Land O'Lakes Purina Feed. "Better Animals" allows producers and consumers easy access to information and expert advice on all facets of animal care.

"Our web site (www.betteranimals.com) allows both producers and consumers an opportunity to learn more about proper nutrition and animal maintenance," explains Nulik. "They can view quarterly newsletters on specific species including cattle, goats, horses, poultry, pets, rabbits and show animals."

RFD-TV has revolutionized the ability of rural and agricultural organizations, companies, and government agencies to communicate directly with their members, consumers and interested parties, by providing the opportunity to focus on a particular subject without the time restraints normally associated with television broadcasts.
