National Champions Crowned at Gelbvieh Show in Denver

Quality ran deep and numbers were up at the 2008 National Gelbvieh Show during National Western Stock Show in Denver, Colo. Shane Lindsay of Iowa evaluated the entries and complimented the exhibitors on the cattle shown.

Earning National Champion Gelbvieh Female honors was LBFM Halo’s Jewell 34S ET exhibited by Megan Helle of Edinburg, Texas. This May 2006 daughter of SLC Freedom 178F ET first won Champion Intermediate Heifer honors. Halo’s Jewell also won Champion Ring of Gold Female for the 2007-08 season. Little Bull Farm of Kentucky was the breeder of the heifer.

Slipping into the Reserve National Champion Female spot was JDPD Sonador 46S. Junior member, Ashley Skeels of Boerne, Texas, exhibited this female. Sonador is an April 2006 daughter of RTRM Headline and Dromgoole’s Heaven of Richmond, Texas, was the breeder of this female.

Ridinger Cattle Company of Deer Trail, Colo., took home the National Champion Gelbvieh Bull banner with RID R Collateral 2R. This February 2005 bull is a son of JCGR Bar GT Flashback. He first won Champion Senior Bull honors. Ridinger Cattle Company is the breeder and owner.

Dromgoole’s Heaven of Richmond, Texas, earned Reserve National Champion Gelbvieh Bull with JHG Premonition 662S. This February 2006 bull is a son of former Breeder’s Choice Bull Futurity Champion, PMG Pegasus 01P. Jim Horton of Iowa bred this bull and Dromgoole’s have added him to their herd bull battery.

Dromgoole’s Heaven, Jim and Pat Dromgoole, of Richmond, Texas, earned Premier Breeder & Premier Exhibitor honors for the National Gelbvieh & Balancer Show. Brad and Carol Ridinger of Deer Trail, Colo., were selected by their peers as Herdsman of the Year. The Ridingers are herdsmen for Jumping Cow Gelbvieh, as well as their own operation, Ridinger Cattle Company.

In the Ring of Gold Bull competition, GGGE 3G Rio Bravo 564R, bred, owned and shown by Emily Griffiths of Kendallville, Ind., earned top honors for the second year in a row. Rio Bravo is a March 2005 son of SLC Freedom 178F ET.

Steve Patton of Indiana evaluated the entries in the National Western Gelbvieh Junior Heifer Show. Ashley Skeels of Boerne, Texas, earned Champion Gelbvieh Heifer honors with JDPD Sonador 46S. Emily Griffiths of Indiana earned Reserve Gelbvieh Heifer honors with GGGE 3G Cowgirl Star 644S. This March 2006 daughter of JRI Extra Exposure 285L71 already had calf at side on show day.
