SelectVAC® named official preconditioning program for Superior Livestock Auction

Pfizer Animal Health and Superior Livestock Auction have announced that SelectVAC®, the premier branded preconditioning program from Pfizer, has been chosen as the preferred health program for calves sold through Superior Livestock Auction.
The partnership creates a new level of preconditioning that both organizations believe will help cow-calf producers capture even more value for their calves. Building upon the successful and well recognized VAC platform, Superior and Pfizer Animal Health have created new, premium designations for progressive producers.
Calves meeting the health and management protocols of the SelectVAC program and sold through Superior Livestock video auctions will have the designations of SelectVAC34, SelectVAC34+, SelectVAC45 or SelectVACPrecon. These new programs have protocols that follow the current PreVAC, WeanVAC® and StockerVAC® programs from Pfizer.
“These designations are important, as our buyers recognize calves represented in this certified preconditioning program will be healthier and will perform consistently well at the feedlot,” says Jim Kelley, business manager with Superior Livestock Auction, Ft. Worth, Texas. “We are excited to provide our consigners with the opportunity to take advantage of this top-of-the-line preconditioning program.
“The SelectVAC program is similar to our current VAC programs,” Kelley continues. “By vaccinating their calves using the protocols in this certified health program, producers have the added confidence that their calves are protected by trusted Pfizer products, in addition to being represented by Superior and Pfizer field representatives.” All other preconditioning programs used by Superior consignors will be recognized under the current VAC designations offered by Superior Livestock Auction.
“This partnership is the culmination of an informal, but long-standing relationship between Pfizer and Superior – we’re honored that SelectVAC is receiving this endorsement from the largest video auction market in the country,” says Pierre Bertrand, SelectVAC marketing manager at Pfizer. “The outcome for producers will be a premium designation for calves vaccinated following SelectVAC protocols and sold through Superior.
“Calves preconditioned using SelectVAC standards are in high demand because they deliver value to buyers through improved health which reduces treatment costs, time and labor needs,” Bertrand adds. “SelectVAC calves have earned up to $29 more per head on sale day, and in particular, calves on a WeanVAC-like preconditioning program earned $41 more per head on sale day.”1,2,3
SelectVAC protocols include the use of industry trusted products – such as Bovi-Shield GOLD®, CattleMaster® GOLD™, ONE SHOT® and DECTOMAX®. By using these products and following flexible management protocols that fit individual styles, producers can help ensure the health of their calves.
With more than 2.5 million calves having been enrolled, the SelectVAC program has a demonstrated track record of performance, health and premiums. The endorsement of the leading cattle marketing organization in the U.S. reinforces the importance of preconditioning calves to improve health and maximize returns.
